YMCA Academy Updates

Dear Parents / Guardians,

Just a reminder that Parent / Teacher Interviews are happening next week on Wednesday November 17th (for Grade 9’s & 10’s) and Thursday November 18th (for Grade 11’s & 12’s). If you are still interested in coming in for an interview but have not yet made an appointment, please do so as soon as possible by calling us at 416-928-0124 ext. “0”.  There are only a couple of times left on Wednesday however, there are still several available times on Thursday.  Call as soon as you can to ensure you get the day and time you desire.

Please note: To accommodate Parent / Teacher Interviews, both days will operate on a shortened schedule so that all classes will finish at 12:10pm.  See schedules below.

Wednesday November 17th
09:30am – 10:45am   Period 1
10:45am – 10:55am   Break
10:55am – 12:10pm   Period 2

Thursday November 18th
09:30am – 10:45am   Period 3
10:45am – 10:55am   Break
10:55am – 12:10pm   Period 4

Also, please note that students are encouraged to attend the interviews (or part of) with their Parents / Guardians.  Report cards will be given to you at the time of your interview.  If you do not come in for an interview, the report card will be mailed to the student’s home the following week.  Should you have any questions or concerns about Parent / Teacher Interviews, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Nov. 2nd, 2010 – Good News Newsletter Vol. 1 E2

YMCA Academy Updates

The Good News Letter is a publication from the YMCA Academy. Last year, the Art of Living class decided that too often the news focuses on the negative aspects of our society.

They decided to do something about it and to write their own Good News Newsletter to highlight all of the positive things that happen at our school. It was a hit, and we are happy now to present the second edition.

It has become a sort of school newspaper, with submissions from many students and staff. We hope that you enjoy it, and we welcome any articles for future editions.

INTERVIEW NIGHTS

Grades 9 & 10, Wednesday, November 17, 2:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Grades 11 & 12, Thursday, November 18, 2:00 – 8:00 P.M.

You will receive your child’s report card and have an opportunity to meet with his/her teachers in a 20-minute group interview format.

Both days will operate on a half-day schedule so classes will finish at 12:10 p.m.

Oct. 14th, 2010 – Curriculum Night & Open House

Dear Parents / Guardians,

Just a reminder that the YMCA Academy Curriculum Night + Open House is next Wednesday (Oct 20th):

Curriculum Night

This will be a general overview of information related to planning for post-secondary education, secondary school graduation requirements (including community involvement requirements), ILC (Independent Learning Centre) courses, and Cooperative Education.  We will also speak about IEPs and the IPRC process.  All parents, guardians, and current students are welcome.

OPEN HOUSE

This is an opportunity to present information about the Academy to prospective parents and students (not our current families).  We are asking for your support in passing the word on to at least one family that you know whom you think might benefit from enrolling at the Academy.  We have openings for the second semester of this academic year, as well as next year.
