Apr. 26th, 2012 – YMCA of GTA Regional Forum

On Wednesday, April 25, the Central YMCA hosted the Toronto Regional Forum.

Each of the YMCA programs run in the Central Toronto region (including the YMCA Academy) were represented. This forum was the first in hopefully many opportunities for the YMCA staff across Toronto to connect and learn how critical their roles are in the YMCA’s mission of “The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership “ and vision of “Our communities will be home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults.”

The forum opened with the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s CEO, Medhat Mahdy, sharing his vision on making Toronto communities healthier and YMCA Academy students, Brianna Gillen and Raquel Simpson, sharing their own Y experiences of support.

The forum was an opportunity to share Y stories, updates and insights. A wonderful day of promise and hope!

May 10th, 2011 – Volunteer Recognition Assembly

Volunteerism is an important part of the YMCA culture with countless volunteers contributing to various programs across the association.

At the Academy we paused our lessons for a moment of recognition and appreciation. Staff, Students and Volunteers gathered to recognize &  give special thanks to three Academy volunteers,  Dale Jeffries, Peggy Mannis and Todd Harrison,  who have contributed their time, energy and support to the Academy family over the last 3 years. Students made cards and a few used this opportunity to say special thanks to those with whom they had worked closely

On behalf of the Academy and the Association we thank YOU for all you do.

Sept. 27th, 2010 – Pictures from the YMCA AGM

The YMCA’s new strategic plan, “Strong Start, Great Future,” was launched on Thursday at the AGM held at Metro Central.  Students from the Academy were invited to participate in the closing celebration and they really put on a show!  Donning a rainbow of coloured YMCA t-shirts and holding signs that represented a variety of youth advocacy issues, our students shimmied through the crowd, strutted on to the stage and raised the roof to the 1980’s tune “Rise Up” by Toronto’s Parachute Club.  After a moving speech by CEO Medhat Mahdy, this upbeat display of colour and energy filled the room with positive vibes and an inspiring send-off to the members of the organization.  Academy students were proud to represent the face of today’s youth and were happy to play a part in such an important and invigorating event.
