Cooking Club is an after-school activity where students come together to prepare and cook a meal or snack. You get the chance to practice important kitchen skills, hang out with peers, and of course, try delicious foods. Students will be asked to sign-up per week to confirm numbers.

Math club is a place to get some support from peers and teachers with math! If you’re struggling with something from math class or if you need some more time to get your math work done come to math club. You can come every week or drop in as needed. If you love math, you can come hang out and help other students. We’ll also provide some fun challenge problems and math facts!

Drama is the expression and exploration of personal, cultural and social worlds through role and situation that engages, entertains and challenges! Drama club will be a fun space for members to play warm-up games, develop improvisational skills, and possibly create and present some original and/or scripted monologues or scenes! No experience is necessary! Just bring your enthusiasm and positive energy!

Run club is a weekly meeting to learn about and practice running. Our goal is to prepare for the Bold and Cold 5k, hosted by Team Unbreakable. We will meet on Wednesday mornings before school. We will be running outside (weather permitting), when we are unable to run outside, we will use the track at the Y. 

We will meet at the entrance to the North Side (we will let students in and ask them to leave their belongings in the Purple Room before heading to the park). 

Please note a permission form is required. If your child indicates interest in this club, we will reach out with a permission form for you to sign.

This year the Media Production Club will work on a year-long school highlight production. During the process, we will explore cinematography, music, special effects, etc. As a team together we will decide the details of the film, such as story, casts, sets, etc. We will share our final production with the school community. All students are welcome to participate in this student-led media production club.

Homework club is an opportunity for students to receive additional support with their classwork after school. Homework club is also a great chance to get together to work on group projects or connect with other students in your classes to collaborate on school work.

Art Space is a lunch club where members can express their thoughts, emotions, and themselves through art. In the club, we explore various mediums: from painting, drawing, sculpture to digital art. We hope to foster members' experimentation and creative mindset. Members will be collaborating on group projects. Members can also simply use this space to work on class activities, assignments and sketchbook work in a creative environment where we inspire each other. Additionally, members of Art Space can showcase their work in the end-of-year Art Show, celebrating their artistic journeys.

The YMCA Academy Jack Chapter is a student-led mental health promotion club. This club helps organize events and initiatives around mental health awareness for students. Our club is funded and supported by Jack.org, an initiative aimed at bringing youth together and building capacity for mental health activities. Training is provided, and students earn volunteer hours as well as valuable leadership skills as they contribute to the mental health and well-being of our community. 

Note: As a student leadership club, the Jack Chapter occasionally meets at additional times when planning events and initiatives. High School students only.

Music Club is a place for students to explore their love for music in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you play an instrument, sing, or just enjoy discovering new music, there’s something for everyone! We’ll explore chords, refine our instrumental and vocal skills, dive into the art of songwriting, and learn about a variety of music genres—all based on student interests. No experience is needed—just a passion for music. We will meet every second Thursday after school. All students are welcome to join!

Creative Writing Club is an opportunity to share your love of — or even just curiosity about — creative writing with others in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. You’ll get to do some short, fun writing exercises; explore some new ways to write creatively; or just take some time to share something you’ve been working on. You can work on fiction, poetry, songs, comics, or whatever you want to write!

Mock Trial Club is an opportunity to explore aspects of criminal law while developing literacy, oral communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in a fun and challenging co-curricular role-playing experience. For the first part of the school year, students will learn the basics and form two teams that will “play” against each other. Beginning in January, the club will focus on tackling the 2025 Ontario Bar Association high school mock trial case. Students demonstrating a high level of commitment and proficiency will have the opportunity to participate in the city-wide competitive mock trial tournament in early May. 

Note: While in the second semester connections will be made to the Grade 11/12 Law class, students do not need to be enrolled in the class in order to participate, nor are students taking Law required to participate in Mock Trial.

Meeting times may be adjusted or added on an as-needed basis.

The Chess and Board Games Club offers students a fun and engaging space to develop critical thinking, strategy, and teamwork. Led by Cassidy and Luka, the club meets at lunch in the Red Room, where students can enjoy friendly competition and cooperative play through chess and a variety of board games. All skill levels are welcome!
