Creative Writing Club is an opportunity to share your love of — or even just curiosity about — creative writing with others in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. You’ll get to do some short, fun writing exercises; explore some new ways to write creatively; or just take some time to share something you’ve been working on. You can work on fiction, poetry, songs, comics, or whatever you want to write!

Mock Trial Club is an opportunity to explore aspects of criminal law while developing literacy, oral communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in a fun and challenging co-curricular role-playing experience. For the first part of the school year, students will learn the basics and form two teams that will “play” against each other. Beginning in January, the club will focus on tackling the 2025 Ontario Bar Association high school mock trial case. Students demonstrating a high level of commitment and proficiency will have the opportunity to participate in the city-wide competitive mock trial tournament in early May. 

Note: While in the second semester connections will be made to the Grade 11/12 Law class, students do not need to be enrolled in the class in order to participate, nor are students taking Law required to participate in Mock Trial.

Debate Club is an opportunity for students to learn more about debate structure, arguments and evidence as they hone their public speaking skills. We will have fun debating topics such as “Be it resolved that hotdogs are sandwiches” or “Be it resolved that cats are better than dogs” as well as more serious topics. Students are welcome to drop in any Monday at lunch to the Red Room for some good-natured debate fun!

Join the Academy Yoga Club for a refreshing start to your day! On Tuesday mornings, we'll gather to practice mindfulness, strengthen our bodies, and cultivate inner peace through guided yoga sessions. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, come connect with friends, improve your focus, and embrace a positive mindset before school.

Lunchtime house-league soccer for grades 7-12, offering students a fun and energizing break from their day. Open to players of all abilities, this inclusive program encourages teamwork, school spirit, and friendly competition. Mixed-grade teams provide a great opportunity for students to interact, make new friends, and stay active in a low-pressure, supportive environment. With the focus on enjoyment and participation, it's the perfect way to refresh, recharge, and bring some excitement to the school day.

Film Club is a lunch club, where students discuss social and cultural issues and representation explored within a variety of films. Students share their personal connections and knowledge for various relevant subject matters addressed in these films. There will be a time when we will plan to go to the cinema as a club field trip after school.

Math club is a place to get some support from peers and teachers with math! If you’re struggling with something from math class or if you need some more time to get your math work done come to math club. You can come every week or drop in as needed. If you love math, you can come hang out and help other students. We’ll also provide some fun challenge problems and math facts!

Role play as heroes fighting evil and solving puzzles in an imaginary world through shared storytelling. Instead of being powered by a computer or gaming console, role playing games unfold in the minds of a group of people through shared storytelling. Rather than quietly staring at a screen and clicking buttons on a controller, D&D members cooperatively scour maps, lay out plans, brainstorm solutions, and tackle challenges all through the power of imagination.

Run club is a weekly meeting to learn about and practice running. Our goal is to prepare for the Bold and Cold 5k, hosted by Team Unbreakable. We will meet on Wednesday mornings before school. We will be running outside (weather permitting), when we are unable to run outside, we will use the track at the Y. 
We will meet at the entrance to the North Side (we will let students in and ask them to leave their belongings in the Purple Room before heading to the park).

This year the Media Production Club will work on a year-long school highlight production. During the process, we will explore cinematography, music, special effects, etc. As a team together we will decide the details of the film, such as story, casts, sets, etc. We will share our final production with the school community. All students are welcome to participate in this student-led media production club.

Homework club is an opportunity for students to receive additional support with their classwork after school. Homework club is also a great chance to get together to work on group projects or connect with other students in your classes to collaborate on school work.

The YMCA Academy Jack Chapter is a student-led mental health promotion club. This club helps organize events and initiatives around mental health awareness for students. Our club is funded and supported by Jack.org, an initiative aimed at bringing youth together and building capacity for mental health activities. Training is provided, and students earn volunteer hours as well as valuable leadership skills as they contribute to the mental health and well-being of our community. 

Note: As a student leadership club, the Jack Chapter occasionally meets at additional times when planning events and initiatives. High School students only.

Cooking Club is an after-school activity where students come together to prepare and cook a meal or snack. You get the chance to practice important kitchen skills, hang out with peers, and of course, try delicious foods. Students will be asked to sign-up per week to confirm numbers.
